Terbinafine HCL API BP/USP

Terbinafine HCl is a synthetic allylamine antifungal agent used primarily to treat superficial fungal infections of the skin and nails. It is fungicidal (kills fungi) against dermatophytes, and fungistatic or fungicidal (dose-dependent) against some yeasts and molds.

⚕️ Common Indications:
Tinea infections (athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm)
Onychomycosis (fungal nail infection)
Tinea versicolor
Cutaneous candidiasis

🧬 Mechanism of Action:
Terbinafine inhibits squalene epoxidase, an enzyme involved in fungal ergosterol synthesis, leading to accumulation of squalene and disruption of cell membrane function—resulting in fungal cell death.
