FLUOROURACIL contains ‘Fluorouracil’ that works by interfering with the growth of genetic material (DNA and RNA) of the cancer cells. This prevents the cancer cells from multiplying and growing and eventually kills them. FLUOROURACIL is used as chemotherapy for colon cancer, oesophageal (food pipe) cancer, stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, breast cancer and cervical cancer.
Take FLUOROURACIL as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take FLUOROURACIL for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical conditions. You may experience nausea, vomiting, weakness, loss of appetite, increased risk of infection, hair loss, diarrhoea, decreased blood cells (red cells, white cells, and platelets), mouth ulcers, blisters on fingers/feet. During the first few weeks of treatment, the skin lesions and surrounding areas will feel irritated and look red, swollen and scaly. This is a sign that FLUOROURACIL (cream) is working. Most of these side effects of FLUOROURACIL do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.
