Applying Surgi-ORC® is very simple, fast and safe. The haemostatic reticulum can be applied directly onto the dried bleeding area or organ. It acts locally and usually stops bleeding within 3-4 minutes, depending on the type of surgery and the intensity of bleeding.
The product can either be applied to the required area by gentle pressure, attaching with a stitch or sewing onto a tissue or an organ or it can be used as a form of tamponade. Surgi-ORC® is perfectly absorbable and need not be removed from the application site.
The action mechanism of Surgi-ORC® is independent of the blood coagulation mechanism of the body. Surgi-ORC® absorbs the blood and forms a brown/black gelatinous mass, which aids clot formation at the application site.
This gelatinous mass acts as a physical matrix for platelet adherence. Platelet aggregation leads to the formation of a platelet-fibrin plug, hence, Haemostasis.
